2.7.22

February 7, 2022 -

Dear Juniors and Parents,

Welcome back! We hope you had a restful winter break and are just as excited for the second semester of this year as we are! You can expect to receive a College Corner on a regular basis for the remainder of the school year and throughout senior year as well. Thank you for reading these important messages and taking any action required.
Questionnaires
Juniors: Before your first introductory meeting with your counselor, please be sure to complete the Junior Intro Questionnaire. Please fill it out carefully, thoughtfully, and in its entirety so that your counselor will get to learn about you and perhaps more importantly, by exploring these questions you will learn more about yourself. Once your questionnaire is complete, you may request a meeting with your counselor. We strongly recommend completing this valuable step as soon as possible. We are eager to meet with you!

Parents: The Parent Questionnaire is a great way to share your insights into your student with us. We also encourage you to share any hopes, expectations, parameters, or concerns with us. We hope you will complete the questionnaire and join us for a meeting later in the year.
SAT/ACT Policies for the Class of 2023
We are still awaiting official updates from several colleges regarding what their testing policies will be for the Class of 2023. However, many schools have announced their policies; the most up-to-date info can be found on each college’s admission office websites. For your convenience, we are keeping track of several colleges’ policies on this sheet.
CUNY Testing Update
While there’s no official announcement yet, we’ve received word that the City University of New York (CUNY) will make the submission of standardized test scores (SAT/ACT) optional for admission consideration for the next two years. This is a shift from the test-blind policy they’ve used for the last two cycles. It means students will be able to submit test scores as part of their applications to CUNY schools, but candidates will not be penalized for choosing not to submit them.
First Time Registration for SAT or ACT Sunday Test
SAT: The very first time you register for the SAT, you must submit College Board’s online form and upload a completed clergy letter. Please get a clergy letter from the College Guidance Office. Click here for instructions for first-time registrants and to complete the form to switch to a Sunday test date. This process takes days to complete. Do NOT wait until the last minute to register!

Visiting and Researching Colleges
We encourage you to take advantage of virtual visit opportunities at colleges and universities. Several schools are now open for in-person tours as well! Visiting in either capacity is a great way to learn about what schools offer. Register for virtual/in-person tours on colleges’ admission websites.
Save the Date!
Our Annual College Fair and Information Night is scheduled to take place on Wednesday, April 6, 2022. Admissions counselors from many colleges will be present to speak with Flatbush students and families. This is a fantastic opportunity to explore colleges you might not have otherwise considered and meet with the people who might be reading your applications! Please mark your calendars and plan to join us.

Warmly,

The College Guidance Department
