Partners in Reading Book Club Brings Together JBHS and Middle School Students

December 31, 2021 -

On Thursday, Dec. 22, fifty JBHS and Middle School students enjoyed lunch and lively discussions for the winter semester session of the Partners in Reading Book Club. Students read Gary Paulsen's "The River," a novel about a boy who is asked to relive the time when he had survived a plane crash and lived in the wilderness for 54 days with only his hatchet.

Over pizza, sushi and other delicious goodies, students got to know one another and discussed the book's plot and themes guided by questions posed by high school leaders. Afterwards, the students had an activity in which they discussed how they would survive in different environments.

Partners in Reading was coached by HS Librarian Brian Katz and ES General Studies Librarian Leah Bennett and greatly assisted by Shifra Hanon, Elisheva Berenstein, Middle School Administrator Lynn Dashiff, and Middle School Co-Principal Rabbi Ronn Yaish.
