Lower School Students Discover that Reading is Their Superpower

Lower School Students Discover that Reading is Their Superpower
November 22, 2019

Last week, Lower School students participated in Book Week, exploring the theme “Reading is My Superpower!”

To kick off Book Week 2019, Beth and Scott, award-winning wife and husband team of singer-songwriters, sang songs and told stories about super characters that showed the power of courage and perseverance. Students in the Lower School sang and moved along to stories about Rosa Parks, Hellen Keller, Sacajawea, and Hey, Little Ant! Students also heard from Book Week Song Contest winners, Emily Heskiel (4-333) and Sylvia Mizrahi (5-334), who performed their original songs for all to enjoy!

Throughout the week, students used their reading superpowers to explore new worlds. On Wednesday and Thursday, each class had a designated time to participate in a photo booth activity of "Powerful Pictures.” Students dressed up as a character from a “super” book and took a picture that demonstrated the “power” of reading. The students got to take home the photo as a memento. It was an exciting week for our students! Thank you to Danielle Betesh and Chani Schreiber for coordinating this program.
