Jack Charles Levy A”H Fitness Day

JBHS Participates in Second Annual Jack Charles Levy A”H Fitness Day

March 31, 2023 -

On Thursday, March 23rd, JBHS students and staff participated in the second annual Jack Charles Levy A”H Fitness Day. This year’s focus was Food for Fuel.
To kick off the event, in an unbelievable show of support and love, over 70 of Jack’s classmates joined Rabbi Besser on Wednesday night for an inspiring shiur to elevate Jack’s neshama. Jack’s classmates also enjoyed a light dinner and took part in displaying multiple pictures of Jack on bulletin boards in the Student Commons.
On Thursday, family and friends of the Levy and Podolsky families joined our students and faculty during the morning’s Opening Sessions where they heard various speakers remember Jack and discuss his legacy. Jack was known for giving encouragement to others who needed it. In the process of discovering that reaching his own health and fitness goals brought him greater confidence, Jack set out to help others recognize their strengths and build upon them. With this year’s focus on Food for Fuel, Sandy Zohni, a registered dietician, spoke about making the right choices and fueling our bodies for health and carrying on Jack’s legacy.
Throughout the day, students participated in fitness sessions including boxing, self-defense, yoga, strength training, cardio, and Zumba. Students also joined cooking sessions where they made delicious pre and post workout snacks.
The energy of the day was most palpable during lunch periods where students, faculty, family, and friends convened in the Oved Family Plaza and Student Commons to take part in special activities. Just about everyone challenged themselves and friends to the Hang Bar Challenge where many quickly learned that hanging on to a bar for two minutes is quite a challenge. The Wheely Good Smoothies station was an absolute hit. Using frozen and fresh fruits and low-fat milk, students, family, and faculty were spinning away on specially designed smoothie bicycles until their smoothies were ready for consumption. Throughout the Oved Family Plaza, pictures of Jack were on display on tables with text that emphasized Jack’s love of healthy food and a request for those sitting at the table to make a beracha to elevate Jack’s neshama.
We thank the incredible team of moms and faculty who organized the event. Special thanks to Jack’s dear friends who helped plan the event and organize the Wednesday night shiur.
