Dear Seniors and Parents,

 

Congratulations on making it to March and on all your accomplishments thus far; we are all very proud of you!

• You cannot submit an enrollment deposit to more than one school. The college is counting on your enrollment once you commit, so it is unethical to commit to more than one institution.
• You should visit the colleges you were admitted to! Check the college’s websites to see any covid-related requirements for visits. If you can’t visit in person, definitely take advantage of virtual tours and programs! There are many other online offerings for admitted students as well. 
• If you have received financial aid offers from the colleges, compare them carefully. 
• Once you have decided on and deposited at your college, notify the other schools that you will not attend. It’s nice to tell them where you’re going. 
• If you have been offered a spot on a college’s waitlist, it is important to speak to your counselor about what you must do in order to remain a viable candidate on the waitlist. In most cases, you will need to secure a place at another school before you receive a final decision. If you are ultimately admitted from a waitlist, you will be able to withdraw from your other college. However, you will most likely lose the deposit you paid at that school.
• If you are planning to take a gap year, make sure you adhere to your college’s deadline to request a deferral. 

Your midyear grades have been sent to your colleges. If you requested that your midyear grades be sent to CUNY, we sent those updates to them too.

• Hillel International is offering scholarships to qualifying high school seniors. Deadlines vary. Click here for more info and to apply. 

• BP is offering $2000 scholarships to qualifying high school seniors who plan to attend a two- or four-year college in the fall of 2022, demonstrate financial need, and live in the NYC area. It is due by March 25, 2022. Click here for more information and to apply.

• Lockheed Martin is offering $10,000 scholarships for students pursuing engineering or computer science at a four-year college or university. Recipients may renew the scholarship up to three times for a total potential value of $40,000 per student. Application is due April 1, 2022. Click here for more info and to apply. 

• We The Students is hosting an essay competition for high school students. Sixteen student winners will receive a total of $20,000 in scholarship prizes. More details including rules and regulations can be found on their website. Essay prompt is: How does an understanding of natural rights and respect build a free society? Deadline is April 15, 2022.

• Verplank Foundation is offering a $10,000 scholarship to a high school senior who successfully manages Type 1 Diabetes. Application is due April 15, 2022. Click here for more info and to apply. 

• Intertech Foundation is offering a $2500 scholarship to a high school senior pursuing computer science. Application is due April 15, 2022. Click here for more info and to apply. 

• Kochhar & Co. is offering a $1000 scholarship to a student interested in accounting. Application is due March 31, 2022. Click here for more info and to apply. 

• The Chiu “Review It” Scholarship is offering $1000 to a student who writes the best movie review. Application is due May 15, 2022. Click here for more info and to apply.

Please take the time to thank your teachers who wrote letters of recommendation for you. We have thank you cards available in the College Guidance Office. You are welcome to drop-in and grab what you need to write your notes!
