3.15.22

Dear Seniors and Parents,

Congratulations on making it to March and on all your accomplishments thus far; we are all very proud of you!
Decisions
We know that many of you will be receiving decisions from colleges in the coming days and weeks. If needed, be sure that you have set up the appropriate portals so that you can monitor your decisions. And please continue to report decisions to your counselor as you receive them. We also ask that you email a picture of any scholarship letters you receive to [email protected] and to your counselor.

Lastly, please remember that this is a time to be aware of your behavior and reactions to decisions (yours and others’) and sensitive to your classmates. Not everyone receives the same news, so please exercise your best judgment in terms of how you choose to share your decisions and thoughts. Also remember, some schools release decisions in waves, so it is quite possible to receive decisions at different times than your friends.
Enrolling in College
The National Candidate Reply Date is May 1st. In most cases, this is the date by which you need to solidify your decision about the ONE school you will attend.

Key Factors to Keep in Mind:

  • You cannot submit an enrollment deposit to more than one school. The college is counting on your enrollment once you commit, so it is unethical to commit to more than one institution.
  • You should visit the colleges you were admitted to! Check the college’s websites to see any covid-related requirements for visits. If you can’t visit in person, definitely take advantage of virtual tours and programs! There are many other online offerings for admitted students as well.
  • If you have received financial aid offers from the colleges, compare them carefully.
  • Once you have decided on and deposited at your college, notify the other schools that you will not attend. It’s nice to tell them where you’re going.
  • If you have been offered a spot on a college’s waitlist, it is important to speak to your counselor about what you must do in order to remain a viable candidate on the waitlist. In most cases, you will need to secure a place at another school before you receive a final decision. If you are ultimately admitted from a waitlist, you will be able to withdraw from your other college. However, you will most likely lose the deposit you paid at that school.
  • If you are planning to take a gap year, make sure you adhere to your college’s deadline to request a deferral.
Midyear Transcripts
Your midyear grades have been sent to your colleges. If you requested that your midyear grades be sent to CUNY, we sent those updates to them too.

Thank Your Recommenders
Please take the time to thank your teachers who wrote letters of recommendation for you. We have thank you cards available in the College Guidance Office. You are welcome to drop-in and grab what you need to write your notes!
Senior Year Home Stretch
We cannot emphasize enough the importance of making good academic and social decisions over the coming months. It is important to continue to prioritize your academic work and maintain or improve your level of performance all the way to the end of the semester. Too much “senioritis” or poor choices could jeopardize your admission offers. Make every moment inside and outside of the classroom a positive one!

We wish you and your families a happy Purim!

Warmly,

Ms. Long, Mrs. Dressler, Ms. Natov, Rabbi Rosenblum,
Rabbi Schwartz, and Ms. Kuznicki
