November 23, 2021 -

Dear Seniors and Parents,

We hope this message finds you all well and ready for a short break. We certainly are! We are very proud of the work many students have completed on college applications so far. Over 75% of you have already submitted at least some of your applications! Let’s keep the momentum going!

Please read this entire message for important reminders and information.
Important Reminders
  • Please do not submit any application before you review it with your college counselor.
  • Do not forget to actually submit all parts of your application(s) and pay the application fee(s)!
  • Review your transcript carefully and make sure that all of your classes, grades, home address, date of birth, and all names are correct. Remember: Your transcript must have your LEGAL NAME and match your Social Security number, test scores, application, etc. Everything must match! Your transcript is available in your E-Portfolio in Rediker.
Important Deadlines Summary
  • December 1- CUNY application submission goal (earlier is great too if you’re ready!)
  • December 20- Priority review deadline for remaining college applications
For Those Who've Applied, Now What?
If you have already submitted an application (or a few), now is the time to confirm everything is complete:
  1. Are you submitting test scores? Did you report your official scores through the College Board or ACT if official reports are required? Or verify that self-reporting on your application is sufficient? Schools have different policies and procedures on this. Remember, most colleges are still test-optional, so it is okay if the answer to the first question is no and you skip this step.
  2. Did you submit a College List and Transcript Request Form for (at least) all of the schools you’ve applied to so far? We must have this on file to send your school materials (i.e., transcript, school report and recommendations). Do this with your counselor ASAP if you have December 1 (or earlier) deadlines!
  3. Did you submit your financial aid application(s)? This includes the FAFSA and (if required) CSS Profile. Some colleges have their own financial aid forms as well.
  4. Look out for email messages from your college(s). Treat any message you receive from a college you’ve applied to as urgent and read it carefully. Most colleges will have you set up an account in their system so that you can monitor the status of your application materials. It is also how you’ll receive your decision in most cases. **For Macaulay/CUNY applicants: please look for the “activate your CUNYFirst account” email -- this is key in setting up your CUNY portal.
  5. Note that it can take colleges several days or even weeks to process materials, so please be patient if it says something is missing. Continue to check and ensure that all documents are received by the college. At this point, you should alert your counselor if something (besides the mid-year report) appears to be missing. We will deliver your mid-year report in February.
  6. If your college requests your Progress Report from us, please be aware that we will send it. However, we do not send Progress Reports unless the college asks for them. If you’re doing very well and you wish to share it with Early college(s) on your own, feel free to upload it to your portal or email it to the admissions office to be added to your admission file. Ask your college advisor for help with this email!
  7. Now is the time to thank your teachers who wrote letters of recommendation for you. It is a time-consuming process, so showing your appreciation is especially meaningful. We have blank cards in the College Guidance Office that you can use to write a thank you note!
For Those Who Haven’t Yet Applied or Have More Applications to Submit
  • Be sure you are working on your materials for these applications and meeting with your counselor to go over them.
  • If you are applying to CUNY, we strongly encourage you to submit your application by the end of November. All CUNY applicants should be ready to submit when we return to school after Thanksgiving/Hanukkah break.
  • Please remember that we have an internal priority review deadline of December 20th for all additional Regular Decision applications.
