Pesach Unlike any Other

Pesach Unlike Any Other

A Pesach unlike any other

Pesach is a time of many things in our community. Cooking, cleaning, and family.

In this unprecedented time we are living through this Pesach will look a little different.

We reached out to three of our alums and asked them to provide some chizuk to our community during a time of rapid change and fear.

May we move forward to better times ahead. We wish you a Chag Kasher v’sameach.

Rabbi Dr. Raymond Harari (HS ’72) has served as the Joel Braverman High School, head of school since 2005 and has been on the Judaic Studies faculty for over 30 years.

He received his BA in Philosophy and MA in Jewish Studies from Yeshiva University, his Semikha from Rabbi Isaac Elchanan Theological Seminary (RIETS), and his PhD in Jewish History from New York University.

You can see his Pesach message to our school community HERE

Rabbanit Smadar Eliach Rosensweig (ES ’75, HS ’79) is a Clinical Associate Professor of Bible at Stern College for Women. Prior to that she served as lecturer in Judaic Studies and Jewish History at Touro College. She studied at Michlalah, Jerusalem College for Women, has a BA from Barnard College, an MA and MPhil in Jewish History from Columbia University.

She is the daughter of beloved YOF Principal Emeritus, Rabbi Dr. David Eliach and the late esteemed professor of Holocaust Studies, Dr. Yaffa Eliach.

Many of her lectures and podcasts, including some on Pesach can be found HERE on YUTorah Online.

Rabbi Dr. Mordechai Schiffman (HS ’04) is the Assistant Rabbi at Kingsway Jewish Center in Brooklyn, NY. He has a BA from Yeshiva College, completed his Semikha at Rabbi Isaac Elchanan Theological Seminary (RIETS), and received a Master's in Jewish Education from Azrieli Graduate School of Jewish Education. Additionally, he has a Master's and a Doctorate in Psychology from St. John's University.

Rabbi Schiffman also serves as an assistant professor at Yeshiva University’s Azrieli Graduate School of Jewish Education, and is a licensed psychologist practicing in the New York area.

He is a regular writer for The Jewish Press and you can see his latest column on Pesach at Psyched for Torah.

Special Feature: Asking questions is the essential function participants play at a Seder.  We have to ask.  We have to be curious.  We have to inquire.

Rabbi Jonathan Sacks, one of the premier Jewish thinkers in the world today, is embarking on a project in which he attempts to answer the philosophical questions of today's Jewish Young Adults. In order to do so, he wants to hear the questions you think about. What do you want to know about Torah? Judaism? Being Jewish? He's not answering questions of Halakhah (mostly "how" questions), but he is answering questions of Hashkafah (mostly "why" questions)?

How can you help? Click this link to go to a form in which you can submit your questions.  Hopefully, your questions will find their way into a video, book or article that Rabbi Sacks composes.  If so, the few moments you take now might help contribute to all of the Jewish World!
