JBHS Scores High in WordWright Competition

Three teams of students representing the Yeshivah of Flatbush recently won highest honors in year-end standings of this year’s WordWright Challenge, a national competition for high school students requiring close reading and analysis of many different kinds of prose and poetry. Participating with 693 high school teams from all across the country, the school’s ninth, tenth and eleventh graders all placed first in the nation among all the teams participating at their respective grade levels. The teams were supervised by Shifra Hanon.

Five of the school’s students won highest honors for year-long individual achievement as well: Freshmen Eddie Hamway and Grace Hidary both placed among the 13 highest-ranked ninth graders in the entire country in the year-end cumulative standings, while juniors Gabby Eisner, Abie Farhi, and Reuven Goldstein all placed among the 20 highest-ranked eleventh graders nationwide.
