6th Grade Students Come Up With Creative Solutions to Combat Ocean Plastic Pollution

As a culminating project of their Ocean Plastics Pollution unit, Mrs. Terzi’s 6th Grade science classes have been using the Engineering Design Process to come up with products and solutions to ocean plastic pollution. Some students have been inventing alternative products, others have been creating art sculptures out of plastic and others are filming public service announcements to convey their message. On Tuesday, these students created a display of their creations. Students produced chairs, recycle bins, surfboards, scooters, turtles, sea animals, rocket ships and boats all out of single use plastic. This unit has brought a global problem to the forefront of these students’ lives. Many students have already been making changes in their own habits by using reusable water bottles and metal straws.
