Students in Grades 5-8 Learn About Financial Skills and Responsibility with Kids Financial Literacy

Last week, we welcomed back Kids Financial Literacy, a nonprofit organization designed to educate children about fundamental financial skills and responsibility. The interactive program for grades 5-8 uses engaging multidimensional presentations and activity books. The students asked thought provoking questions throughout the program.

The 5th grade learned money basics. The students learned about the different methods of payments (cash, checks and credit cards), depositing a check and the difference between needs and wants. The program ended with a lesson on budgeting.

The 6th grade learned about creating a business and taxes. The students learned about profit and loss, advertising, and business planning, as well as how taxes are collected and used.

The 7th grade learned about banking and credit cards. The students learned about the differences between credit cards and debit cards, the intricacies of a credit card bill, credit scores, interest and mortgages.

The 8th grade learned about saving and investing. The students learned about the importance of saving money and forms of investments, including real estate, the stock market and cryptocurrency.

We would like to thank BHI, Jimmy Haber in loving memory of his wife Amy Haber A”H, and Jack Ezon and Sion Betesh of Blue Star Clothing Company & Silver One International for sponsoring the program in our school. If you have any feedback or questions about the program please contact Louise Suede, the director of the Financial Literacy Program, at [email protected].
