Boy holding pie for National Pi Day!

YOF Lower Division celebrated National Pi Day on March 14. Activities included learning about the meaning of Pi (3.14), the parts of the circle, and how Pi is used to find the area and circumference of a circle. Mrs. Statman's first grade class worked on Pi activities which included words that rhyme with Pi. Mrs. Ayash's fifth grade math class had a Pi Day challenge during which the students were asked to memorize as many digits of the entire number of Pi as they could. Congratulations to first place winner Rami Harari who was able to memorize 97 digits of Pi! The class celebrated with, of course, apple pie. Mrs. Benisti's and Ms. Tawil's fifth grade math classes also participated in a Pi competition to memorize as many digits of Pi as possible. They celebrated with delicious pies prepared by Rebecca Bukobza.

Marsha Kevelson, Lower Division Math Coordinator, contributed many of the creative ideas that made the day a success.

A bunch of pies that students made for National Pi Day!
