Last week, Rabbi Felendler's 8-404 and 8-402 classes celebrated their siyum of sefer Tehillim. Throughout the month of Adar Alef, the girls independently read through the entire book of Tehillim, following a standard division of the book into 30 parts. Their interlinear Tehillim provided them with the ability to study the words and their meaning. To help students connect to Tehillim, Rabbi Felendler published weekly flyers, which included remarks from great Rabbis about the greatness of Tehillim, Tehillim stories, and thoughts on the perakim that were on the schedule, to highlight important lessons.
The beautiful siyum event was designed with student input, both in menu and decor. Rabbi Felendler spoke about the significance of celebrating a spiritual achievement. "We celebrate what we value. In a world with ever-increasing materialistic lures, the celebration of a greater connection to HaShem and Torah is a rare and prized jewel."
The final perek of Tehillim was read by 8-402 student Allegra Houllou. The program included speeches from 8-404 student Michelle Belenkiy and 8-402 student Esther Sasson. Both students spoke about the impact that the lessons of Tehillim had on them, and about their overall growth throughout the program.
Students felt a gratifying sense of accomplishment and appreciated that their achievements were marked in such a special way.
This event was generously sponsored by Ralph and Ami Sasson in memory of Katie Fishel, a"h, מאירה חיה נחמה ברכה בת דוד מרדכי ע"ה.
