Shutdown Defense Keeps Falcons Undefeated

News From the Falcons Nest

The Flatbush JV Football Team recorded its third shutout of the season on Sunday afternoon (3/3), and the team stayed perfect on the season at 4-0 with a 12-0 win over Mesivta Shaare Pruzdor on the Turf Field at Lawrence High School in Cedarhurst, NY.

Unlike one week ago, this time the offense provided multiple scores. The first six points came on the ground, the first rushing touchdown of the season. But, like the other scores, this one was also the result of efforts by Sophomore Quarterback Michael Smouha. This time, though, he did it with his feet rather than his arm.

The second score came via the air, and came along with some theatrics. Smouha lofted the ball in the direction of Gerry Sabbagh, and somehow Sabbagh pulled in the ball - behind his back and against his shoulders! Credit is due to the offensive line. Anchored by the excellent blocking of Eddie Keda, Smouha was given both time to find receivers downfield as well as the lanes to run when the option presented itself.

The two scores were more than enough cushion for the Falcons this afternoon, as the defense was back in complete shut down mode. Pruzdor could not get any traction as Flatbush recorded seven sacks on the day. Jacob Kassin collected four of those sacks while Bobby Anteby took credit for the other three.

All in all, it was another total victory on both sides of the ball for the young Flatbush Falcons.
