This week, Mrs. Rita Franco's 7th grade social studies classes visited Fort Hamilton and the Harbor Defense Museum. There, students learned about different weaponry and army uniforms that have been used since the 1700s. A museum docent taught students about the Battle of Brooklyn in 1776, a battle that was part of the Revolutionary War. The students received a demonstration from a Fort Hamilton volunteer on how to properly fire a musket, one of the important weapons during the Revolutionary War. At the conclusion of their visit, students had an opportunity to examine artifacts on their own. The trip brought history to life for the students.
