JBHS Students Succeed in WordWright Competition

Four teams of students representing the Yeshivah of Flatbush Joel Braverman High School recently won high honors in this year's WordWright Challenge, a national competition for high school students requiring close reading and analysis of many different kinds of prose and poetry, in the second meet, held in December. Participating with 693 school teams from all across the country, our eleventh graders placed first in the nation! Our tenth graders placed second in the nation, our twelfth graders tied for second place in the nation and our ninth graders tied for fourth place in the nation.

Students at the school who achieved outstanding individual results in the meet are freshmen Jacob Lazerowitz, David Mosseri, Jack Saad, and Morris Zalta (all of whom earned perfect scores) Richard Levi, Sophia Manopla, and Abie Saada; sophomores Ralph Betesh, Rachel Sanders, Shelly Shamah, and Isaac Sofer (all of whom earned perfect scores), Teddy Hara, and Etty Jajati; juniors Gaby Eisner, Abie Farhi, and Bonnie Melamed (all of whom earned perfect scores), Lily Castro, Sylvia Franco, Reuven Goldstein, Gabriella Hershowitz, Grace Khezrie, Sylvia Mizrahi, Sarina Shalom, Orly Aichkitah, Jack Bibi, and Elizabeth Nadjan; and seniors Liel Edri and Marc Franco (both of whom earned perfect scores), Teri Franco, Danielle Malka, Sarit Alkada, Celia Banbaji, Josh Dweck, Danielle Lebovich, and Fortune Skaff. The students were supervised by Shifra Hanon.
