The JBHS Hebrew Play cast successfully brought to life a school within their school in YOF’s first Hebrew production of “School of Rock” on December 23rd and 24th. Magical and miraculous, this incredible feat involved 40 cast and crew members, including six faculty members, a backstage crew, a band off stage, and a band onstage. The text was translated into Hebrew by former JBHS faculty member Dr. Lea Gerber, and the lyrics were translated by Daniel Efrat in Israel.

Directed by Sally Grazi-Shatzkes (ES 1995, HS 1999), the annual Hebrew Play is performed in memory of Jason Botnick, A”H who was himself a magnetic performer during his high school years. Before the show, Mrs. Ruchie Winkler spoke about how Jason was always the life of the party and knew how to make the entire audience burst into laughter.

“School of Rock” was an enormous undertaking. In collaboration with Band Leader Danny Shatzkes (ES 1994, HS 1998) and Set Designer Rebecca Grazi-Siev (ES 2002, HS 2006), Mrs. Shatzkes and the cast worked tirelessly since September to make sure that every detail was perfect. Hard work paid off in this Rockin’ performance!
