Varsity Football Falls in Season Opener

The Flatbush Boys varsity Flag Football team kicked off the 2019-20 Mesivta Football League season early Sunday afternoon (10/27), taking on Mesivta Netzach Hatorah in the first of four League games, and were denied a late-game comeback falling to Netzach by a final score of 25-13 at the Lawrence HS Turf Field in Cedarhurst, NY.

This was a day that Head Coach Teddy Beyda and his group of Varsity Football Falcons had been looking forward to since the conclusion of the JV season this past Spring.  The majority of his roster is made up of Juniors who were part of Coach Beyda's JV Regular Season champions. But, they lost in the Finals, and it left a sour taste at the end of a great season for the young Falcons.

For all the success earned as JV's, it is a step up moving to the Varsity level, as the Flatbush boys would quickly learn.

The two teams battled each other as well as some wet weather all game long. In the end, it was Netzach Hatorah - a new entry into the MFL this year - who succeeded against the challenge from both the weather and the opposition.

A late interception of Junior Quarterback Michael Smouha led to the final score of the game - 25-13. Along the way, Jakey Tawil and Ikey Tawil each corralled touchdown receptions for the Falcons.

NEST NOTES: The team will look to rebound from this loss when they return to action on Tuesday, November 5th. The Falcons will take on the YDE Thunder at Aviator Sports and Events Center. Game time is set for 8:15 pm.
