Middle Division Celebrates the 2018-19 Athletic Season

The Flatbush Athletic Department held its annual Middle Division Athletic Awards Dinner on Wednesday evening (6/12), gathering in the Elementary School Auditorium to share reflections on the training sessions, competitions and achievements of the 2018-2019 school year, while enjoying a sumptuous dinner with their teammates and coaches at the Yeshivah of Flatbush Elementary School in Brooklyn, NY.

 Middle Division Awards

Flatbush Athletic Director Eric Amkraut opened the evening program by welcoming the 6th through 8th grade student-athletes representing the 10 different teams that represented the Yeshivah on athletic competition, some who have done so in one capacity or another over the past three seasons.

With the attendees having returned to their tables with their meals from the buffet spread, Mr. Amkraut directed their attention to the video screen where a video montage of photos from the 2018-19 athletic season was presented. Cheers from each team rose from the assembled student-athletes as pictures from their respective team’s games appeared. (A special thank you goes out to Mr. David Idy for putting together the uplifting video montage!)

Middle Division Principal Rabbi David Hertzberg addressed the student-athletes, reflecting on the great opportunity they have been afforded in representing the school as student-athletes. He noted for all that regardless of whether you win or lose, one of the greatest lessons one should take away from the privilege of being a Flatbush Falcon is the ability to demonstrate sportsmanship on and off the court, and that respect for yourself, your teammates and your opponents is one of the most significant attributes of a Flatbush Falcon!

Afterwards, in turn the coaching staff of each Middle Division team was called upon by Mr. Amkraut to share a brief reflection on their respective team seasons and to present the team awards. Awards were presented as follows: best Offensive Player, Best Defensive Player, 6th Man/Coaches Award, Most Improved Player, Sportsmanship Award and Most Outstanding Player. Additionally, each graduating 8th grade member of a team received a special award of recognition to commemorate the end of their Middle Division athletic careers.

(Special thank you to Ms. Ellen Pearlman and Ms. Dovrat Levi without whose tireless efforts this culminating event – and the Middle Division Athletic Program as a whole – would not be so meaningful and successful. Mabrouk and Todah Rabbah to both Ms. Pearlman and Ms. Levi!)
