JV Girls Open Playoffs With Big Win

The Flatbush JV Girls Basketball Team opened the post-season on Tuesday night (2/11) for the Falcons, defeating the Ramaz Rams by 20+ points and advancing to the Semi-Finals of the MYHSAL Playoffs with the win at the Falcons Nest in Brooklyn, NY.

Flatbush Forward Tunie Hanan set the tone at both ends of the court as the Falcon Freshman scored the first 6 points of the game at one end, and stymied the Ramaz offense at the other end with a pair of blocked shots and a number of defensive rebounds. Fellow Freshman Robyn Beyda was equally impactful on defense, her long arms making it difficult for the Ram guards to pass into the lane or get off clean shots from the perimeter.

With Sophomore Center Lynn Franco anchoring the defense in the paint, the Rams struggled to get a rebound. Flatbush looked to pull away, but a late run from Ramaz made it a 13-point game at the half.

 Esther Mizrachi

Flatbush’s speedy Sophomore Guard Esther Mizrachi, who spent a large part of the first half on the bench due to foul trouble, made a strong statement to open the second half. With fresh legs and a keen focus, she turned three defensive stops into three straight breakaway lay ups. Flatbush’s lead ballooned to 20 points and the Falcons never looked back. Solid shooting from Guards Alexa Greenstein and Sarah Siri maintained the cushion the rest of the way. Flatbush won by a final score of 52-31.
