JV Boy’s Drop Home Opener

The Flatbush JV Boys Soccer Team played with high energy in their home opener Tuesday night (3/12), but it was not nearly enough to carry the day as they fell by a wide margin to the Frisch Cougars, one of the MYHSAL powerhouse teams from the Western Division, at the Falcons Nest in Brooklyn, NY.

Flatbush’s Sophomore Goalkeeper Joe Gindi opened the game with a quick-reflex save of a blast from the Cougars off the opening tap. Jack Levy denied a Frisch chance a minute later. But, two minutes in, the floodgates opened. The visiting Cougars drilled four shots into the Falcons goal to take control of the contest. Falcon striker Elie Ojalvo had a good chance 5 minutes in, but the Frisch Goalie made the stop. Levy also had a shot from midcourt that had scoring potential, but it was smothered by the Cougar Keeper. At the end of the first quarter, Frish was out in front, 6-0.

At the start of the second period of play, Shlomo Tangy had a golden opportunity to get Flatbush on the board, deftly maneuvering the goalie out of position, and tapping the ball towards the open goal with a crafty behind-the-leg kick. But, at the last second a Cougar defender closed across the crease and cleared away the ball. Gindi came up with another tough save, but he couldn’t stop them all and Frisch added to their lead. With 2:32 to play in the half, Isaac Kroub finally got Flatbush on the board with an angled power kick from the left side. At the half. Frisch held a commanding 11-1 lead.

Coach Yossi Ojalvo inserted Leor Yazdi into goal in the hopes of giving his Falcons a lift, but Frisch continued to add to their goal total. Gindi soon was reinserted, and settled down the defense, allowing only one more goal the rest of the way. Tangy and Kroub each had looks at the Frisch net, but the keeper kept the ball out, denying the Falcons any more goals. The clock soon ran out on the quarter and, by mercy rule, the game. Frisch would take the win back to New Jersey, 15-1.

NEST NOTES: The JV Boys Falcons are now 0-2 on the young season. They will look to change that when they return to action on Monday, March 18, in a cross-town rivalry match with the YDE Thunder. It is the first game of a JV/Varsity doubleheader, set to get underway at the Coney Island Avenue school at 7:00 pm.
