Ice Hockey Makes a Return to Flatbush

After a two-year hiatus, Ice Hockey is making a return to team competition at Yehsivah of Flatbush, as the team held it's first practice on Saturday night (10/26) at Aviator Sports and Events Center at Floyd Bennett Field in Brooklyn, NY.

 Ice Hockey - 1st Practice

Under the guidance of 1st Year Head Coach Rabbi Charles Safdieh, the newest group of Falcons to wear the Maroon and Gold on the ice stepped out on to the Aviator surface to to prepare for the 2019-20 season of Yeshiva Ice Hockey League competition. This is the third year of League operations, and though Flatbush was a key player in launching the League four years ago, this is the first time Flat bush will put a complete squad on the ice for League play.

Coach Safdieh was impressed by the play of the boys and looking forward to leading the re-start of ice hockey at Flatbush. "It was great to get to see the boys skate and begin to get a feel for where each of their strengths lie.  This was our first team practice, and it came together quickly, so we did not have the full squad on the ice. Gerry Sabbagh and Joe Mamiye already looked comfortable as potential linemates.  Ezra Habert showed good puckhandling skills.  Abie Shaoul skated with great proficiency.  David Cattan and Steven Rabih showed that they can be reliable players on this squad.   Tonight was a great first step, and I can't wait to see what we will look look like when the season gets underway."

NEST NOTES: The Yeshiva Ice Hockey League is slated to begin it;s third season of play in November. All games will be played on Sunday evenings at 5:15 pm at Mackay Arena in Englewood, NJ. The League is in the process of finalizing the schedule, and anticipate its release in the next week.
