Cross Country Puts a Wrap on Fall Season

The Flatbush Boys & Girls Cross Country teams concluded the Fall 20129 season Sunday afternoon (11/10) with the running of the MYHSAL Cross Country Championships at Van Cortlandt Park's Cross Country Course in the Bronx, NY.

The weather-abbreviated season concluded this afternoon, and though the team did not finish in one of the top three places, Flatbush's top three boys runners each turned in personal best times. Josh Gorbatov was the top Falcon finisher with a time of 25:29. Marc Lessler was right on his heels, crossing the finish line five seconds after Gorbatov. Eitan Yehoshua turned in a time of 27:40.

Freshman runner Sarah Vidal was the lone representative for the Falcons on the girls' side of things. VIdal, one of the top runners in the League, was not expected to run in the Championships having broken her foot just about three weeks ago. But, she was determined to run once more before the end of the season and she did exactly that! Vidal finished in 8th place, roughly 4 minutes slower than her normal pace, a factor of the impact the injury has had on her running form. At full strength, Head Coach Lorelei Black believed that Vidal would have challenged for the top overall spot in the race.

"This is a young group of hard-working runners," expressed Coach Black. "I am confident that this experience will serve each of them well and will carry over into the Spring Track & Field Season."
