8th Graders Put a Wrap on the Season @ Barclays Center

The Flatbush 8th Grade Boys and Girls Basketball Teams brought their 2018-19 season to an official close with their annual end-of-season outing to see the Brooklyn Nets, the borough's only big-time professional sports franchise, on Monday night (4/1) at Brooklyn's own Barclays Center.

It has become an annual rite for the Flatbush 8th Grade Hoopsters, gathering as teams along with their coaches one final time as Flatbush Middle Division Falcons. Accompanied by 8th Grade Girls coaches Rozan Mizrahi-Loudon and Sarah Horowitz and 8th Grade Boys coaches Mike Gelber and Daniel Salzman (Coach Charles Harary could not join the boys as he also does duty as Co-head Coach of the HS's Varsity Boys Volleyball team and they had a game going on at the same time), the student-athletes traveled together by bus from the Elementary School to the Barclays Center. As a surprise, each player received a special Brooklyn nets hoodie as a gift for attending the game as part of a large group. With many immediately donning their new Nets gear, they settled in for what would be a very competitive game.

The late-season match-up say the Nets battle the NBA's Eastern Division-leading Milwaukee Bucks. Though the Bucks have secured the top seed in the East, the Nets are in a battle for one of the final playoff spots and are looking to make a push for one of those final places. It looked like the Bucks would run away with a huge win as they went up by 22 points in the first quarter, but the Nets came all the way back, even taking a lead. In the end, Milwaukee had too much for the hometown team, and the visiting Bucks defeated Brooklyn by a final score of 131-121.

But, it was a fun time for the Flatbush Falcons just the same. Many were dancing and singing with the crowd while others took advantage of the kosher food stand for some game time snacks. A few Falcons even got in on the entertainment, making a cameo on the jumbotron during the Dance Cam segment!

It was a memorable night, bring a conclusion to a memorable time as YoF Middle Division Falcons.
