Chesed and community service are core facets of the Yeshivah of Flatbush. Giving back and supporting others in our community is a middah that stays with our alumni long after they graduate. In this newsletter, we are highlighting just a few alumni, who are making a difference in their communities every day.

Thanksgiving is all about families, gratitude and giving thanks. The Yeshivah of Flatbush family is grateful for every gift we receive - and in the spirit of Thanksgiving, we hope you pay-it-forward to the next generation of alumni by donating to the Alumni Campaign, which supports 836 students who receive tuition assistance. We are sure that thousands of our alumni practice Chesed day in and day out. We are proud of the giving community we created, which impacts Klal Yisrael and the world at large. Happy Thanksgiving!

Susie Shrem (ES '98, HS '02) is a beloved first-grade teacher at Yeshivah of Flatbush, who gave of herself - literally. Earlier this year, she made the incredible and selfless decision to donate a kidney. She joins a growing list of YOF alums and staff, who have made this life-changing gift: AJ Gindi (ES '74, HS '78), Ronnie Grazi (HS '78), Steven Hakim (HS '15), Esther Kizelnik (Director of Operations), and Miriam Wielgus (HS Jewish History Department Chair).

Arthur Dubroff (ES '64, HS '68) and Hattie (Silverman) Dubroff (HS '68) have been involved in their community for decades. Chesed and giving is weaved into the fabric of their lives. Hattie is the Chair of the Board of Governors of National AMIT. Arthur served as President of their synagogue in West Orange, NJ. Arthur has also served on the boards of numerous local organizations including their local yeshiva, the Jewish Community Housing Corporation, the American Jewish Committee of New Jersey and the Essex County mikveh.

Orly Wahba (HS '01) is the founder of Life Vest Inside and has dedicated her life to spreading kindness around the globe. She is an educator, entrepreneur, author, inspirational speaker and community activist passionate about inspiring and motivating people to be the best that they can be. Orly’s award-winning film, Kindness Boomerang, went viral, receiving over 100 million views and eventually landing her a spot to speak at TED2013 on the Magic of Kindness.

Allen Shalam (ES '07, HS '11) traveled to Uganda with a group of 18 young adults with Innovation Africa. During this trip organized by Sephardic Community Center, they donated a clean water system that will improve the lives of 1,500 men, women, and children. Innovation Africa is an Israeli organization that has helped over 1 million people living in third world countries around the globe.
